Professor P and the Jurassic Coast

Review

…the results are superb. Professor P is an enthralling tale of time travel, based around the eponymous Professor P and the two children he has befriended – Peter and Tara. Their adventure leads them to encounter all manner of creatures, including a talking front door, a computer disc named Floppy, and an exploding can of beans, whilst managing to integrate Davidson’s love of paleontology. The opening part of a trilogy, Professor P… bodes well for the future, and indeed, successive books and comes highly recommended by all that have read it.”

“I have been a teacher for 30 years and have never known a class to be as enthralled with a book as they are with Professor P and the Jurassic Coast. They are so desperate to know what is going to happen next, that I have to take it home with me and keep it hidden away from them!!”

Wendy Hill, Year 5 Teacher

“This is a great book to read to your son (or daughter). My little buddy is 6. This 248 page cracker, served as superb cliffhanging entertainment for bedtime after bedtime for weeks. If you can combine it first with an exiting fossil hunt on the Isle of Wight or the Jurassic Coast, then all the better. We loved this book. A super romp across the fossil beach, then across millions of years, then across alternative worlds in the company of the eccentric, kind, and inventive Professor P, and good friends and adventurers, young Peter and Tara. A brilliant, happy adventure that will not only entertain, but will subtly and simply introduce some cutting edge scientific concepts too. Plus as a bonus there's a great guide all about the formation and types of fossils at the end, which is easy to understand for all ages from 6 to 60,000,000. Highly recommended!”

“Brilliant! Outstanding! I loved the book.....all the elements for a sure fire success – dinosaurs, sea ones too, accurate illustrations, excellent website, the cover’s clever use of a real photo plus computer graphics - so many good things - shades of Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, Five Go Mad in Dorset, Dr Who - a real feast of a read tapping into the familiar yet educating subtly - taking it that step beyond. Straight into the action no messing, all the characters well introduced plus the interactive pets and machines - would make a great film!”

“…thank you for being with us last Monday to launch our book week. All the children crept into corners, onto cushions and other quite places to read your book in the afternoon. I think you should know that two of my reluctant readers have jumped at your book and I believe that Professor P and the Jurassic Coast may well be the one that gets them hooked”.

Jane Harper, Year 4 Teacher

“I’m sure you will be delighted to learn that Professor P and the Jurassic Coast is now in Eastleigh Library’s junior stock after being given a recommendation by our qualified team of evaluators, and is issuing well.”

Hannah Plom, Children’s and Young People’s Librarian

“…thank you for the book…we love it. We have reached chapter 18 and the girls always want me to do ‘just one more chapter’ every night. They laughed out loud at the talking kitchen equipment and are on the edge of their seats at each stage of the adventure.”

Chris Skidmore, Mother of daughter’s aged 6 and 8 years

 Dear Professor Davidson

I think your book is a great read because it teaches you about dinosaurs and fossils and the characters are also funny (I like Floppy the best!). My whole family have read the book and we all really enjoyed reading it.

I have been on the website with my mum and I enjoyed reading the facts and playing the games.

I hope you write more books in the future.

 Yours faithfully

Kate  (Year 6 )

“I loved your book (Professor P and the Jurassic Coast) it was ‘awesome!’ I was reading the book in the morning and by the time I had finished it, it was the evening!! I’m really looking forward to reading the next book! I like your book because the way you describe the characters is extremely good and it is not dull, not even a single bit!!!!! My favourite characters are Floppy and Pro-P, I’d love to be an inventor just like him making time machines! From your number one fan.”

Laura

“I am writing to congratulate you on your book. I have just finished it. I think it is an excellent book, one of the best I have ever read also seeing as I have just started looking for fossils the guide is very handy. I started your book on New Years Eve and finished it on the 2nd of Jan and I am 8 years old. Is this record time for finishing your book my age? When is the next book in the series coming out please?”

Anna (aged 8 years)

I did like the book very much because of the way it was written. I like the story plan. I like the idea of a time machine also, I like the fossil guide. I like the way that you keep the reader interested all the time. It keeps you in suspense even at the end. The story is full of adventures. My favourite adventure is when Peter, Tara and Floppy were in the Jurassic Period because it is so unusual. My favourite chapters are the Safe and Shark Attack. It was difficult to put the book down.”

 Matthew (aged 10 years)

“I would like to say it is a brilliant book, and I especially like Floppy the supercomputer. I myself am dinosaur maniac, so your book was really my kind of thing. I think the best part was the bit when the sharks were attacking Peter’s raft, and he was fending them of with baked beans! I really hope you write a sequel, because I really want to know what happens next.”

Georgia (aged 11 years)
